relics of the past

So an important part of my life materialized a few days ago as I was cleaning out a closet full of old stuff. These are relics from a previous era. Ancient reminders of my youth. In celebration of this paper being 20 years old, I share it with you!

Too much Bud Light for breakfast..

Yes, you, sitting there in your pop-up tailgating chair with the Bud Light logos. Yes, you, with the worn out sky blue shirt emblazoned with howling wolves. I am talking to you. Yes, you...did you accidentally have too much Bud Light for breakfast?

I Love watching our children playing sports. It's great activity for the kids and I really get into my child's success. However, I draw a fine line between supportive cheering and disruptive and useless sideline coaching. The funny thing about organized sports is that there are clearly defined roles. The referees, the players and the coaches. Yeah, coaches. They're the folks that volunteer their time without pay or reward so that your child's team can actually participate in the activity of organized sports. You can usually recognize them by their encouraging words and by their coach shirt. The coach, interesting how their responsibility is coaching, guiding and leading their players and team.

Parents, your incessant screaming, correcting and modifying act only as a distraction from the coaches coaching. They reek havoc on your child. Not only are they trying to play a game, but they are trying to either ignore or be responsive to your jeering remarks. Both of which take away from their concentration on the game. Let your child play the game. Let your child be coached by the person that has stepped up to the challenging role. And for Christ's sake- do not even think of sideline coaching my kid.
